Time Bending as a Busy Mother
Drowning.
This is the way I was describing how I felt earlier this year.
No space to breathe or be.
It was time to make a change within my motherhood journey.
I owed it to myself, my relationships I hold close, and my children.
I started asking …
How can you create time in the non-linear sense?
How can you find more space within your day?
We find ourselves giving in to the busy way we are told to live … on auto-pilot, the hamster wheel, the rat race if you will.
But I call B.S. on it. It’s no way to live, nourish, honor our short time in this life.
So how do we create time? Many of us don’t have an easy way to shut down all of the to-dos and expectations we have as caregivers, home makers, money generators, friends, and so on.
This is where Time Bending steps in. What is the concept of Time Bending? Continue reading to find out.
What is the concept of Time Bending?
Time bending describes how we interpret and perceive the world around us. It is the idea of releasing the linear sense of time and replacing it with an understanding that our consciousness has an affect on our relationship to time. The way we perceive time through our mindset (internal dialogue, self talk) and how we physically walk through our day (our environment, our habits) create the relationship we have with time. And by taking a closer look at how we think and move with time, we can bend time to create space in the every day and our lives as a whole.
What is the difference between Time Management and Time Bending?
Time Management = Framing time from the ego / the head versus Time Bending = Mind-body connection
Time Management = Control versus Time Bending = Space
Time Management = Methodical versus Time Bending = Soulful
Time Management = One size fits all versus Time Bending = Individual
Time Management = Outdated versus Time Bending = New age
Time Management = Activity based versus Time Bending = Holistic, lifestyle based
How can I get started with Time Bending my life as an overwhelmed mom?
You can start by taking what’s swirling around your mind “all-the-things” and mapping it out with a mind-body approach. This is also called “Mind Mapping”: A mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information, showing relationships among pieces of the whole. It is often based on a single concept, drawn as an image in the center of a blank page, to which associated representations of ideas such as images, words and parts of words are added.
Information Consumption (Think)
Think about how you consume information within a day. Where do you consume information, what kind of information, and how does the information make you feel? Is it adding value to your life? Does it make you feel good or icky? Is it creating a positive impact on your day or a negative one? Do you need to consume that information? Think about boundaries surrounding information consumption and draw phrases, pictures, and words that will give you a healthy relationship with information and in turn create space for conscious consumption.
Physical Environment (Move)
What surrounds you throughout your day? Do you have a lot of clutter in your eyes view? Are there plants and nature near by? Do you spend time outside? Is there sound? What kind of sound? Does your atmosphere affect your mode? Do you have all four elements touching your physical environment each day? What small changes can you make to give yourself a serene environment as you move through your day?
Self Talk & Internal Dialogue (Think)
How do you talk to yourself about what you “need” to get done? What is your tonality with yourself? How do you speak about your day with others in your life? Is there any toxic habits you can identify? Do you acknowledge that your words have power and that your internal dialogue becomes reality? Reflect on that and create an affirmation for yourself to stay clear and present through the internal noise.
Fueling Your Body (Move)
How do you move through your day? What do you choose to eat and drink? How do you choose to build heat, strength, and incorporate movement? Is there an awareness to your breath? What do your habits around sleep look like? What do your habits around rest and down time look like? Think about how you can improve the way you fuel your body and draw phrases, pictures, and words that will give you a healthy relationship with your body and in turn move in a way that feels good every day.
My homework to you my friend, give yourself permission to say “no” to something that doesn’t serve you. Your excuse? … (not that you need one) … you are trying this new thing called ‘Time Bending’ :).
